Today, Google Canada announced a $2 million commitment to train job seekers in digital skills in Canada for new careers in technology in under six months. The support includes a three-year Google.org grant to NPower Canada to deliver Google Career Certificate programs and to deploy 5,000 need-based scholarships to access the program.
YMCA Canada is pleased to be partnering with NPower Canada and Google Canada to ensure that underserved youth across the country have access to these trainings. Over the next three years, the YMCA will have a role in referring 250 youth between the ages of 18 and 30 for participation, an emphasis on encouraging applications from equity-seeking groups including those identifying as female and/or gender-diverse, Black, Indigenous and other racialized youth, LGBTQ2SIA+ youth, newcomer youth, and youth with disabilities.
In 2021, YMCA Calgary, YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth, YMCA of Greater Toronto, and YMCA of Greater Vancouver will be involved in the initiative by providing referrals for the trainings to align with NPower programming being offered in those locations.
