Sasha’s Story: Giving Back, Moving Forward

YMCA Calgary

“Being a part of someone else’s story really matters. Even a small act, like donating, can have a ripple effect on a child’s life.”

Giving to the YMCA isn’t just a donation for Sasha Fernando — it’s a reflection of what matters most.

As General Manager of Early Years at YMCA Calgary, Sasha supports children and families every day. But her connection to the Y runs deeper: she’s also a dedicated monthly donor who has been giving for over seven years. “As the Y continues to provide for me and my family, I feel it’s only right to give back,” she says.

What started as a passion for helping others has grown into a personal mission. Whether leading fundraisers, supporting awareness campaigns, or standing outside on cold days with hot chocolate in hand, Sasha is driven by a belief that even small gestures of generosity can create lasting change.

Her story is a powerful reminder: when you give to the YMCA, you’re investing in your neighbours, your community, and a future where everyone has the chance to thrive.
