YMCA Canada 2024 Canada Day Statement

As we celebrate Canada Day, it is essential to reflect on the true essence of this day and its significance in our journey towards truth and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. The YMCA acknowledges the deep historical and ongoing impacts of colonization and recognizes the importance of honouring Indigenous cultures, histories, and contributions.

This day provides an opportunity to educate ourselves and others, fostering a deeper understanding of the Indigenous nations that have a long-standing and continuing presence and rich history on this territory.

Let us use this Canada Day as a moment to pause and think about the roots of this day, celebrate our collective achievements, and recognize the work that lies ahead. By embracing the spirit of reconciliation, we can foster a more inclusive and compassionate society where every individual has the opportunity to shine.
