A winter snow storm provided a scenic backdrop for the first meeting of the 2019 YMCA Young Ambassadors Program (YYAP): Leading Across Boundaries, which took place in January at Geneva Park. For four days, 24 young leaders representing 17 Member Associations throughout eight provinces met with five Senior Leader Action Learning Coaches, three Young Ambassador Alumni coaches, and three faculty members, including the Program’s Academic Director, to complete the first module in-person.
Thanks to a generous donation from Manulife, this year’s curriculum will cover emerging trends in leadership development, equipping participants with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in a shifting socio-economic landscape. As well, YYAP will incorporate a faculty development model that supports alumni of the program to return as co-coaches.
Aimed at growing and retaining engaged and effective mission-driven leaders, the eight-month YYAP strengthens the competencies of younger YMCA leaders in six key areas defined within the YMCA Canada Leadership Development Framework. Employing the 70:20:10 model of action learning, formal training will be blended with experiential learning through the workplace application of a Leadership Challenge supported by peer coaching groups.
