The Town of Labrador City and the YMCA of Newfoundland and Labrador announced in March that a letter of intent has been signed for the YMCA to deliver programs at the proposed new Labrador West Wellness Centre.
The Town has been working with consultants and stakeholders on plans and concept designs for over a year, with the YMCA offering support throughout the process. The Town will remain the owner of the facility and the YMCA will operate any aquatics, fitness, exercise, or day camp programs. The YMCA will be hiring up to 40 full-time and part-time employees in Labrador West.
The YMCA of Newfoundland and Labrador recently completed a $20-million project in St. John’s, opened the new Marystown YMCA in partnership with the Town of Marystown, and is also working on similar facilities with the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay and the Town of Placentia.
