The YMCA has partnered with NBA Canada to give YMCA members and the general public a chance to get up close and personal with the NBA through BMO NBA All-Star KidsFest at the YMCA.
During these events, kids and families enjoy a festival-like atmosphere with interactive NBA games and stations. An NBA Legend (such as Dikembe Mutombo, Robert Parish, Ron Harper or Morris Peterson) has also been on hand in each city to help celebrate the All-Star spirit and participate in special Jr. NBA Clinics for kids aged 8-13. We’ve also welcomed NBA Mascots and Dancers from teams like the Toronto Raptors and Oklahoma Thunder to bring the authentic NBA experience to the Y.
2016 marks the 125th anniversary of the invention of basketball by James Naismith at the YMCA International School in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1891. A special YMCA exhibit is on display at the event, highlighting the evolution of the game and the YMCA’s role in its invention, complete with replica peach baskets!
Another exciting development: a group of twenty YMCA kids aged 12-14 will play in an exhibition game before the NBA All Star game at the Air Canada Centre. So keep your eyes open on February 13 for their excited and friendly faces!
